Pierre-Luc Gagnon, who lives in northern San Diego County, won $75,000. Coupled with his X Games win, he’s won more than $100,000 during the last two weekends. Brazilian Sandro Dias landed a rare 900-degree jump during the mini-mega ramp portion of the finals. The Maloof Money Cup is hosted by Joe and Gavin Maloof, the brothers who own the NBA’s Sacramento Kings and the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. Grinds are performed on any object that may fit between the space between the wheels where the truck meets. The move likely originated in backyard pools, as the early skaters gained in skill and confidence with their high speed carves around the top of the pool walls and one day went that little bit too high. The trucks of the time, often being merely ‘borrowed’ rollerskate trucks, didn’t allow much contact due to their inherent narrowness, but as skateboarding gained its own truck manufacturers who widened the hanger design, the possibilities for exploration became apparent, and all sorts of moves started popping up. Nowadays they are commonly performed on handrails or on the lips of objects such as benches, but any suitably hard, smooth edge will do. That was from Wikipedia, now Darren Navarette aka The Vertical Vampire is gonna show us how to do them. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Skaters in Milwaukee, Wisconsin have a campaign going to help save The Turf Skatepark from the 1970s. They even went so far as to dig out one of the bowls last night and made it on the 10:00 news. Of course the cops came before any real skating could go down but there is hope because a lawyer from the Milwaukee area that skates just phoned and is down to help. You can do your part by writting a letter to Secretary Frank Busalacchi and emailing it to him. Just be very respectful , polite and keep it clean. Here is a sample letter or if you want to write your own feel free. Secretary Frank Busalacchi Frank.Busalacchi@dot.wi.gov Greetings Mr. Busalacchi, I recently learned of a freeway expansion project near 1-94 and Loomis Road in Milwaukee. In the process of clearing the land, the site of a world-renowned skateboard park, The Turf, was unearthed. I grew up skating the Turf and the park has a prominent place in skateboarding history through the 70′s, 80′s and 90′s. I’m writing to urge the state to see if they can preserve some or all of the location, unearthing the park’s features. Since there appear to be no private economic interests involved in the Turf site, it seems like it may be possible to preserve some or all of the location. Please take this into consideration. The resurrection of the Turf would be an historic achievement for the State of Wisconsin and the huge community of skateboarders world wide. Thank you for your time, | | | | | | | | | | | |
